Beyond 18 – Building Independence
Monday 7th February to Friday 11th February
Beyond 18 is the essential guide for ELSS students to getting a great education at university and an insight for.
Beyond 18 Week has been a fixture in the ELSS calendar since we opened the doors to the Sixth Form in September 2018. We have learnt a lot in the intervening period about what universities want, what former students – now at university – wish they knew while they were in year 12 and, perhaps most importantly, what it takes to get into a Russell Group university.
This year’s theme is ‘Building Independence’. University students don’t come ready-made.
You need to engage with what universities are looking for. In a period when many educational institutions have been closed for face-to-face teaching, universities are not only looking for academically talented students, but future undergraduates who have an independent, questioning spirit as demonstrated through your reading, your reflections on your reading, extracurricular activities, the lectures, debates and discussions you have attended and your questions about the world. Have a productive five days, engage with the discussions and put yourself firmly on the path to applying for university.
